Diversity Matters: A BBSA, Cluster Q, CWiB, HBA & MiBA Event

Saturday, September 12, 2020 at 11:00 AM until 2:20 PMEastern Daylight Time UTC -04:00

The Diversity Matters Event celebrates the diverse community at CBS, co-hosted by the Black Business Students Association, Cluster Q, Columbia Women in Business, the Hispanic Business Association, the Military in Business Association, and the Office of Admissions.

Diversity Matters is a half-day event that features representation from leaders within our African American, Hispanic/Latinx, Women’s, Veterans, and LGBTQ+ affinity clubs. Through a student panel, an admissions discussion, and an alumna Fireside Chat, participants will learn about student and academic life, the admissions process, and how CBS prepares its students for long term success. Dean Costis Maglaras will share his vision for Columbia Business School and how DEI fits into that vision.

A highlight will be the student moderated Alumni Fireside Chat featuring Sarah Ribner ’16. Sarah is the Founder & CEO of PiperWai, the first all-natural, charcoal-based, nontoxic deodorant.  Sarah holds an MBA from Columbia and a BA from UPenn. She had a successful appearance on ABC tv’s Shark Tank, is a proud member of the EY Winning Women Class of 2017, Forbes 30 Under 30 2018, and she has appeared on ABC, HSN, AOL Build, Fox, and many other major media outlets.

The conversation will be moderated by current MBA student and budding entrepreneur, Diana Nleya '21. During her time at CBS, Diana founded Gwara, a startup reimagining access to international student finance. A participant in the Columbia Business School Startup Track, Diana won a $10,000 grant to support her venture. Angela Lee, Professor of Practice and Faculty Director of the Eugene Lang Entrepreneurship Center, will provide a brief overview of the entrepreneurial resources at CBS.
